Tim Colon, the President of Pools of Fun, brings a strong foundation of technical expertise and deep local roots to his leadership role. He is highly credentialed, holding two degrees from the Purdue School of Engineering and multiple certifications from both NSPI and APSP. His commitment to industry standards is further solidified by his current service on the Board of Directors of the PHTA. This blend of formal education and professional certification underscores his comprehensive understanding of pool design and construction.
Born and raised in Indiana, the 55-year-old executive has spent the majority of his life in Hendricks County, graduating from Plainfield High School and now residing in Brownsburg. This lifelong connection to the community is integral to Pools of Fun, a 43-year-old company with deep local and industry ties. Tim emphasizes that their longevity is powered by their people, noting that the company has one of the longest tenures across staff in the industry, which ensures a consistent, high-quality product for their customers.
His philosophy centers on the client’s experience, viewing Pools of Fun as a “pool company, not just a pool builder.” Tim’s passion is less about a specific pool style and more about the outcome: designing a pool that “fit perfectly the customers needs and vision for their back yard.” He finds the excitement on the customer’s face upon completion to be the ultimate reward. He asserts that the company’s difference lies in its people, who utilize the best products and warranties on the market to deliver value and quality.
Under his leadership, Pools of Fun operates as a “true 1 stop shop,” taking responsibility for designing the entire backyard—from the backdoor to the fence, including the fence itself. This holistic approach ensures a seamless process for the homeowner. Tim focuses on cultivating a culture of camaraderie among his team, believing this positive work environment ultimately benefits the customer in every interaction they have with the company.
Outside of his professional life, Tim values the strong personal bonds he’s formed with his employees over the years, recalling many shared good times like fishing, going to the races, ATV trips, and dining out. He also humorously mentions the countless times he’s had to deal with the practical challenges of the business, like getting company trucks stuck and unstuck on job sites.
